The nature of flow in shale is multi-mechanistical processes, including sorption, diffusion, slip flow, advection, and flow-induced micro-structuring, which are dynamically coupled with the pore structure deformation under stress condition. The state-of-the-art in-situ small angle neutron scattering (SANS) was used to characterize the nanopore deformation and its anisotropy under far-field uniaxial stress conditions. Porod invariant mapping was used to estimate the apparent porosities at different azimuthal angles. Structure free orientation factors were used to characterize orientation degree in nanopores under stress quantitatively. Based on the results, higher values of apparent porosities are shown near the bedding direction. At different azimuthal angles, the apparent porosities increase with increasing uniaxial stress in the elastic deformation range (54–575 bar) for the measured rock. The pore-scale degree of orientation is a size-dependent parameter, and pore orientation along the bedding generally increases as pore size increases. The degree of orientation in nanopores (in a size range between~2×103 ? and~15 ?) tends to increase first and then decreases with increasing stress loading, although different from that of macropores, indicating higher stresses on the nanopore edges along the bedding direction and then on the nanopore body along the normal direction. There is no distinct permanent porosity change within the measured stress range (0–575 bar) after the stress relief. 报告人简介: 刘世民博士,美国宾州州立大学能源与矿物工程学院终身教授、博士生导师,International Journal of Coal Science & Technology (IJCST)主编。长期从事煤层气、页岩气等非常规储层中气体渗流、气–岩相互作用机制、地质资源评价、二氧化碳地质封存等方面的研究工作,在Fuel, International Journal of Coal Geology, Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, Journal of Natural Gas Science and Engineering等国际一流期刊发表学术论文200余篇,H指数43,并与美国橡树岭国家实验室、美国地质调查局等研究机构建立了长期的专业合作关系。
